Heart Rate Calculator

Use the built-in heart rate meter in our Run apps, or use a Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitor, to track your heart rate.

Your target heart rate is the number of heartbeats per minute (BPM) that you should aim for when you're exercising. According to the American Heart Association, your target heart rate zone is between 50% and 85% of your maximum heart rate.

As a beginner runner, aim for the lower end of your target heart rate zone. As you get more comfortable running, you can start to move up within your heart rate zone. Use our Heart Rate Calculator to find your target heart rate zone.

Target Heart Rate
Notes: The maximum heart rate for men is calculated using the standard formula of 220 minus the person's age. The maximum heart rate calculation for women is calculated using a more accurate formula developed by researchers at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, which is 206 minus 88 percent of a woman's age.
